| Policy for Transferring and Returning
Students When you transfer your membership to this dojo, or return to the dojo after having your status changed to "Inactive", you will be eligible for promotion after the minimum time indicated below:
Dropping in and out of your practice and dojo "hopping" is discouraged in the aikido community. To learn an art such as aikido, it is necessary to apprentice yourself to a teacher for an extended period of time. From time to time, however, for various reasons, students do change dojos. When that happens, it is best to enter your "new" dojo as a "new" student. Although it is customary for your rank to "transfer" to your new dojo (especially when you change dojos within the same organization), this is not always the case. Do not automatically assume that you will be able to wear the rank you have earned from another teacher (especially if that teacher is affiliated with a different organization) in your new dojo. It is up to your new instructor when it is appropriate for you to display your rank. |
